Outside of this context, their comments probably would have seemed lighthearted, but within the context that Gee creates, their barbs become a microcosm of the cold media machine that eats away at the band's psyche throughout the film. Although they seem to be complaining that Radiohead's music is depressing, their insensitivity is far more chilling than the unsettling lyrics of the song. Then he cuts to a British news segment of several broadcasters musing over the video for the song, lamenting the song as 'music to cut your wrists to' and joking about Thom Yorke drowning. Gee initially sets the song to brightly lit images of perfect-looking houses in a row (one of the few clear, full-colour portions in the film) that reflect the pristine sterility suggested by the end of the song. For me, that song reflects a slow surrender to a unsatisfactory life, with the narrator becoming so numbed by the end that they've meekly accepted - 'such a pretty house/and such a pretty garden' - the 'handshake of carbon monoxide'.

Personally, one of the most striking parts in the film was the 'No Suprises' segment. The director, Grant Gee, gives us a bleak portrayal of touring life that loosely picks up on thematic threads from the album. Rather than a coherent narrative progression, the film follows Radiohead on their massive OK Computer tour and collages together concert footage, interviews, articles, and other tidbits. Meeting People Is Easy is not a film in the conventional sense of the term, so it's difficult to write a conventional review.
